How to Properly Separate PermaPaper® Digi Classic for Optimal Performance

When working with PermaPaper® Digi Classic, you may notice that the sheets can feel a bit blocked together straight out of the pack. This is a common issue that we’re actively working to improve, but in the meantime, there’s an easy solution to ensure your printing experience is as smooth as possible: proper paper jogging. Jogging paper is a simple yet essential step to prepare your sheets for printing. Thoroughly fanning out the paper helps separate the sheets, prevents jams, and ensures seamless operation in your printer. Let’s dive into the steps and why they’re so important.

Why Does PermaPaper Digi Classic Feel Blocked?

When the paper is packed, some natural compression can occur, causing the sheets to cling together. This is particularly true for synthetic papers like Digi Classic, which have different surface properties compared to traditional paper. While we’re making improvements to the packaging process, proper jogging is key to avoiding any potential issues.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO SEPARATING PERMAPAPER DIGI CLASSIC

  1. Start with a Clean, Flat Surface
Lay the pack of paper on a clean, flat surface to begin. Remove any external wrapping carefully to avoid damaging the edges of the sheets.
  1. Grip the Edges Firmly
Hold a portion of the stack firmly along one edge. The goal is to create a controlled grip that allows you to manipulate the sheets without bending or creasing them.
  1. Fan the Long Edge
Using your thumb, grip the long edge of the paper and gently flick through the stack. The idea is to allow air to flow between the sheets, breaking any bonds that may have formed during packing.
  1. Repeat with the Short Edge
Rotate the stack and repeat the same fanning process along the short edge. This ensures complete separation and creates an even distribution of air throughout the stack.
  1. Visual Check
Once fanned, quickly check the stack to ensure no sheets are still stuck together. If necessary, repeat the fanning process until all sheets move freely.

Why Fanning Works

Fanning the paper introduces air between the sheets, which helps to break any static or pressure-induced sticking. This is particularly important for synthetic papers, as they can sometimes have a slight static charge or tackiness that causes them to cling together. Proper jogging ensures your printer feeds one sheet at a time, reducing misfeeds and paper jams.

Final Thoughts

While we continue to refine the packaging process for PermaPaper Digi Classic, jogging the paper is a simple step that ensures the best possible results in your printing workflow.
